Ship Building in the Parish

The shipyard was founded in 1788 by the Cook family, and at one time employed 130 persons. Over 350 ships were built , mostly fishing smacks and colliers. The following photographs give an idea of the people and extent of the ship building activities at the yard and some of the vessels that plied their trade:

Married:  John Robinson on 10th March 1863 at St Andrews Church, Burton.

Died: 13th December 1886, Knaith Park, Lincolnshire.
