The River

They say that on clear day, you can see forever. Well, the view from Burton hills does not claim that view, but you can see for over 30 miles. The following photgraphs will give you a feeling for what the river and surrounding views were like many years ago:

The Aeger

The Aeger is caused by the inrush of salt water from the incoming tide pushing back the fresh water of the river, under which it passes as a wedge. It is slightly developed at Burton, but by the time it reaches Keadby, it rises almost 3 feet (about 1 metre). When it reaches Gainsborough it can be 5-6 feet (just under 2 metres).
